History of the establishment of ARTI

For the all-round development of the Matang community and similar castes included in the Scheduled Castes category, in social, economic, educational, cultural, and political aspects, and to ensure the proper benefits of welfare policies related to Scheduled Castes reach the individuals of the Matang community, the government decision under Social Justice, Cultural Affairs, and Sports Department, Ref. CBC 10/2021/ Pr. Kr.144/ Mavak-5 dated 1.8.2003, established the Krantiguru Lahuji Salve Matang Samaj Research Commission.

The commission made 82 recommendations to the government. Among these, recommendation number 72 states, “A national memorial in the name of the literary gem Anna Bhau Sathe should be established in Mumbai, providing research and knowledge gathering facilities.”

Accordingly, in the interim budget for 2024-25, it has been announced that "ARTI" will be established in Mumbai on the lines of the Pune-based institution (BARTI).

In line with this, as per the decision taken in the cabinet meeting on 11.07.2024, approval was granted for the establishment of ARTI for the development of the Matang and similar castes (Mang, Matang, Minamadig, Dakhani-Mang, Mang-Mhasi, Madari, Garudi, Radhemang, Mang-Garodi, Mang-Garudi, Madgi, Madiga) under Scheduled Castes.

Accordingly, the Social Justice and Special Assistance Department of the Maharashtra Government issued a government decision on 16.7.2024 to establish ARTI.

On 1st August 2024, on the occasion of the 104th birth anniversary of Literature Ratna Lokshahir Anna Bhau Sathe, the office and website of ARTI were inaugurated by former Chief Minister Shri Eknathji Shinde, former Deputy Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis, and Deputy Chief Minister Shri Ajitdada Pawar.

Under the supervision of the Social Justice and Special Assistance Department, on 8th January 2025, Anna Bhau Sathe Research and Training Institute (ARTI) was registered under the Companies Act 2013, Rule 8, in Mumbai.

This institution works for the promotion and propagation of the ideas of great personalities and the all-round development of the Matang and similar castes.
